Introducing ClickView Wireless

  • ClickView Wireless
    • ClickView Wireless is a software plug-in for the ClickView Library Server which enables schools to deliver video in a wireless-friendly format across the school network.

ClickView Wireless has been created for schools that need whole classes of students, each with laptops, to access ClickView videos wirelessly.

Getting Started Using ClickView

ClickView is a complete digital media solution which allows teachers to deliver all of their digital videos and resources to any computer in the school/campus. ClickView also allows you to store and manage all your content, including digital video, audio files, podcasts and photos.

Students, especially for self-paced learners & for general library resources, can take ownership over the content, by taking clips out of video and using them in other applications such as Word or PowerPoint.

As a Teaching-Aid,
ClickView gives them access to a huge library of video on demand that you can stream, use as a focus for lessons and edit & embedded into your presentations for students or give to students in a Word Document Keynote or Powerpoint for viewing at home via a flash-drive.

You can also add all your own content from digitised VHS tapes and captured free-to-air TV, making sure that your resources are kept easily accessible and available.

ClickView also comes with a digital video library of over 1000 curriculum relevant programmes for primary, secondary & higher education, from leading content providers such as Classroom Video, Learning Essentials and Video Educationa Australasia. E-Learning in Education Video

"Students can quickly transfer video clips for the chapter or lesson
of the day using ClickView School Bag feature into a USB Thumb-drive"

In the past 20 years, there has been a massive revolution in information and communication technology (ICT). But in many classrooms, you could be forgiven for thinking this revolution never occurred. Not only do today’s young people own multiple ICTs, they use them constantly in their day-to-day life. It’s easy to regard the shift in use of technology as being something fundamentally new, but it’s not. For many young people, staying in close and regular contact with their peer group is very important. Remember when you socialised for hours on the telephone? Today it’s YouTube, MySpace and Facebook where young people build social networks and use ways that they feel most comfortable exchanging information.

“Chalk and talk” might just still work, but it’s hard work, and ignoring communication methods that can be much more effective for today’s student only makes your job harder. This program opens up a discussion about e-learning: what it’s good for, why we need it, and how we can encourage it in our schools. It looks at the revolution in youth communications, the implications of this on education, the meaning of multiliteracy and recent developments in e-learning from industry leaders.

This new educational program is now available on a DVD Format and will be added into the next ClickView Digital Video Library update. You may preview the full video online here

ClickView Digital Video Library

Many of the programs in VEA catalogue are available to ClickView customers as part of the ClickView digital video library. Whenever you see this icon next to a program title, you will know that it is available in the ClickView digital video library. 200 new titles had been released in 2007 by VEA and more programs this year . VEA has contributed over 700 programs to the ClickView digital video library and regularly adds new programs. The entire ClickView digital video library has more than 1300 programs and is still growing!

This is also great news for media librarians because, in the long-run, not only it is more cost effective way for them to easily manage academic digital video library, they can also provide various faculties with up-to-date video collection every year automatically. This reduces the hassle of the normal yet time consuming process of acquiring internationally produced educational videos for your lecturer's needs before. As the name said, Just CLICK & VIEW!

Thebarton Senior College Case Study

"Another major focus area was the development of ICT and multimedia services with the aim of providing state of the art technology to more effectively support the teaching/learning program of the College, and the diverse learning needs of our adult clientele. The purchase of a number of LCD screens and the introduction of Interactive Whiteboards in the College provided broader access to ClickView, the video management software purchased previously.

ClickView is increasingly supporting flexible learning by enabling staff and students to access and view videos at College or at home when needed. It is also proving a teaching tool which more actively engages the learner in the teaching and learning process. Further training and development in its use will be provided in 2008 particularly for new staff. The purchase of a server designed to allow continuous taping of television programs through 24 hours and 7 days a week, will enable the full potential of ClickView as a management and teaching tool to be developed and a more effective and eficient resource service provided to the College community.

The outcome of both the initiatives outlined in this report will be a much improved lexible, and modern teaching/learning facility, in which teachers and teacher/librarians can work collaboratively to support student learning and improved learning outcomes for students. In keeping with these changes and its central role as an information service, CLT approved the change of name from Resource Centre to Library.

Incorporating (Video) Databases into the Curriculum

" Biggest issue for us was dealing with VHS and how to capture off-air broadcasts. We originally had MonD but when the company ceased operation we had to decide whether to go with either the Marcom Product or ClickView. We chose ClickView because it offered a solution to VHS issue rather than just a library of material. Our teachers are high video users and we record many off-air broadcasts for them. More deamand for visual information eg English we’ve captured episodes of Veronica Mars and Smallville Last point – cross-curricular view "
ClickView

  • Solution to capturing video material with the demise of VHS
  • Provides teachers with a range of resources from their desk
  • Also provides others with access to materials outside of their subject area
  • Students not able to borrow video material – owned by departments
  • Videos can no longer be lost

Using Technology to Support and Address Integrated Curriculum, Multiple Intelligences and Differentiated Instruction
Speaker: David Harris, Principal, Gwandalan Public School

Powerful learning and multimedia
- how to infuse multimedia into differentiated lesson plans (page 8-9)

Dara Rosen makes the following observations about multimedia applications. Multimedia and Hypermedia Multimedia applications combine video, sound, text, animation and graphics. In cases where multimedia is used learning becomes an active process involving students and teachers and students can use the technology to learn and communicate their understanding of a subject (Townsend, 1992).

When creating multimedia reports, students must use all learning modes to gather the necessary information. In their article, Frank and Catherine Townsend identify six benefits of using multimedia based lessons to meet learning needs:
  • Multimedia reaches a variety of senses. This allows the individual to tailor or focus their learning to their individual style, whether it is verbal, auditory or physical.
  • Multimedia projects validate self expression by allowing students to decide how they want to create a project or assimilate information.
  • Technology gives a sense of ownership to the user. The students actually create evidence of what they have learned, which can later become part of a portfolio.
  • Multimedia creates an active rather than passive atmosphere for learning, which forces student participation and makes them think.
  • Technology fosters communication among students as well as between student and teacher. They discuss the content, organization of content, and how to present it to others (topics which may not have otherwise been discussed).
  • The use of technology and multimedia makes sense because it is already built in to the everyday life of all students.

Case Studies - Radford College & Tara

InCite Volume28 July 2007 (page 8)

Radford College -Canberra, Australia

"Our resources are varied: books, periodical, videos, DVDs, posters and maps. Our multimedia equipment includes data projectors, laptop computers, digital video and still cameras, headphones, CD players, which can be loaned out for school use. The library has two teaching areas with computers for class use and also a separate area for reading and class use. We have a media room set up for viewing and dubbing videos and DVDs for assignments and oral presentations. Our online presentation room has a permanently mounted data projector connected to a DVD player and a VCR, an interactive whiteboard and a trolley of laptops with wireless connection. The library support staff take care of most of the traditional daily tasks which include the loans desk duties, customer service, orders receipt, cataloguing, end processing and other requests such as: How do I use the photocopier? The printer won’t work. Where do I ind … I left my USB in the computer, do you have it? Can I have a tissue? Can I borrow a pen? Can I use the stapler? Can I borrow headphones? Where do I watch a DVD?"

"We also have ClickView, a digital video library of educational videos and teaching resources from Australian providers. We supplement this with programs that are recorded from free-to-air and pay-TV channels and made accessible through Oliver. The technician monitors upcoming curriculum-related programs in consultation with teaching staff and teacher librarians; these are recorded, edited and linked through Oliver using a web address. They are then accessible to staff and students, either individually or as a class."

Tara Anglican School For Girls Annual Report (page 56-57)

"Our Intranet has continued to be a very successful communication tool within the Tara Community. We have successfully tested a number of online mediums, including BLOG and Moodle, which we hope will soon be available for everyone to use. "

"Our Libraries are moving into the Clickview system allowing teachers and students to view video from the School’s digital video collection from any computer on the network. This new system will help keep the videos in digital format. Videos are currently pushed across the network from a server to computers in the School. From 2007, all recording will be in digital format instead of video taped.

Embracing eLearning @ Strathallan AGG New Zeland

(Page 6: Pdf)

On-line homework instantly accessible? Digital media available at the touch of a button? Lesson notes stored in .pdf files for instant access? Educational software to encapsulate all learning styles? Wireless access to over eight billion sources of information? Science fiction? No, that is the reality of the modern Strathallan learning environment. Strathallan has built a technological infrastructure that would be appreciated by many educational institutions throughout New Zealand. “Integrating technology into the curriculum is part of the mandate at Strathallan. Most educational technology experts agree that technology should be integrated, not as a separate subject or as a once-in-a-while project, but as a tool to promote and extend student learning on a daily basis. Strathallan’s approach using software like Clickview has made that integration a reality,” stated Matt Humber. Matt is the ICT Co-ordinator at Strathallan.

Part of the vision for Strathallan has been to include wireless Tablet PCs into the learning environment. The Tablet PC is equipped with a sensitive screen designed to interact with a stylus. Tablet PCs are fully-functional laptop PCs and more. Staff can use the stylus directly on the screen to generate notes and annotation. This is complimented with instant access to web information and multimedia. As the class notes are digital they can be placed directly into the schools on-line Blackboard Learning Management System for the students to download. This supports the revision process and helps those students who missed the work through absence. Clickview (referred to above), is a software package which has been in use at Strathallan for the last two years. Clickview combines two products; an innovative digital video delivery software package and a digital video library containing videos and teaching resources from leading content providers. These two aspects combine into a network centred video delivery platform which can be scaled to deliver video to hundreds o users at the same time across the network.

Clickview
enables the students to complet self-paced learning in the Computer Lab and generates discussion and educational power in a classroom environment. Student can find themselves at one moment in the trenches in World War One, the next a par of a blood cell making its way around the circulation system, then ordering Tapas from a Spanish waiter, or even making use of satellite technology to discover an geographical location in the world. For all those learners who embrace ICT and the support available, the world as never before, really is their oyster.

eLearning a Foundation for Future Learning

Scotch OakBurn College, Australia : eLearning a Foundation for Future Learning (pdf)

Part of the Article (page 14-16)

Chris Laycock introduced the terminology ‘e-learning’ to Scotch Oakburn College. But what does the word actually mean in the education system?

“E-learning is a generic term that simply indicates the application of computer technology in the education sphere,” said Chris.“A web forum is a good example. Web forum boards are used on the Internet by interest groups. I was reading one the other day about free-to-air digital television, where people talk about their set-top boxes, reception and the like.

In an education sense, a teacher can use educational forums to discuss, for example, texts they are reading - literature circles. Junior School teacher, Ben Green, is presently investigating a communication, or a web forum, with a group of students in Malaysia. He will take a traditional Internet application and manage it in an educational context.

Chris said that ‘communication and collaboration’ are probably the two most important features that the Internet offers at the moment. The product generated is content.
.
.
.
.

“Ten years ago digital content would have been a CD because then CDs were the best way to store information. How many of us still have an encyclopedia on CD, collecting dust on a shelf?  Digital content is not on CDs, it is now on the web. DVDs came along and people moved towards this new medium. But now, you can store more information on a USB thumb drive, than you can on a DVD. We have invested in a lot of digital content, or licensing is probably a better word. ClickView is a good example,” said Chris. ClickView is a video delivery platform that combines innovative digital video delivery software and a digital video library containing videos and teaching resources from Australian content providers.

“ClickView is delivered in pure broadcast quality video. For example, a recent episode of ‘Catalyst’ to do with the effects of nicotine on human health was broadcast, a teacher saw it, and asked for it to be uploaded. Our copyright licences covers the distribution and the viewing of that piece of video at anytime,” said Chris. The e-learning benefit of that is that you’re dealing with a contemporary information source. You have to realise that students of today are a media generation, we tend to glean most of our day to day information from broadcast content: radio, television or via web casting.” Chris Laycock said that technologies such as ClickView, combined with other earning technologies, provide students with a superior learning environment.

The Internet is undoubtedly going to have the greatest impact on education over the next two decades. Young people today are ‘digital natives’. Most students since 1993, when the worldwide web started, have known nothing else. We cannot often forget the significance of that,” said Chris.  There has been lots of media coverage about Wikipedia, about the way it has evolved and the way it is edited.
